26–27 Board Openings

These roles attend the monthly meetings and vote on matters relating to finances for the PTO, updates or changes to board policies or by-laws, and drive the organizational decisions.


Vice President
This is a 3-year commitment, serving as Vice President, President, and then President Emeritus. Responsibilities include: attend monthly meetings; assist the President; perform the duties of the President if the President is absent or unable to serve; provide input for decisions; and be an ambassador for the PTO and school, as needed.

Vice Treasurer
This role is up to a three-year commitment and requires accounting knowledge. The Vice Treasurer role is designed as a job-shadow to learn the ropes of the Treasurer role. While the Vice Treasurer does not manage financial transactions or maintain the books, the intent is that the person in this role will learn alongside the current Treasurer for a seamless transition into the Treasurer role. Responsibilities also include attending monthly meetings.

Membership
Responsibilities include: attend monthly meeting; conduct membership drive in the fall around the return to school; be knowledgeable about PTO events and resources such as the website and app; always thinking about ways to attract more PTO members!

Communications Chair
This role is a one-year commitment. Responsibilities include: attend monthly meetings; manage communications on behalf of the PTO (including social media, website, and emails); assist with creating graphics and promotional materials in line with PTO branding; and collaborate with partner organizations, as needed.

26–27 Committee Chair & Coordinator Roles

A chair will serve as the primary contact for the PTO President or school on behalf of a committee and will likely initiate communication with other committee members to coordinate activities. Coordinator roles are for initiatives that require only one person to execute the duties instead of requiring a committee.


Trivia Night Co-Chairs
Working in tandem with their Co-Chairs and Sponsorship Officer, these roles oversee our largest FUNdraiser of the year — Trivia Night! The Silent Auction Coordinator will manage the silent auction volunteers as the group seeks out donations, collects the donations and executes the silent auction. The Event Coordinator is responsible for booking and coordinating with venue, event signage, and other day-of-event tasks. Work will begin prior to the end of the ‘25–’26 school year to secure event space and fall in line with business annual giving calendars, as needed.

Read-A-Thon Co-Chairs
Work with the committee to run this successful March fundraiser that gets everyone excited about reading! The Read-A-Thon supports students at every grade level by focusing on minutes read, not pages, enabling students to read whatever they like. Committee will work together to organize prizes, maintain communications leading up to and during the R-A-T, and distribute prizes upon completion.

Staff (Teacher) Appreciation Co-Chairs
This role will coordinate the various staff appreciation events including the beginning of the year, holiday, and end-of-year luncheons, as well as coordinating the volunteers to help execute these events. They will also work with the committee volunteers to stock the teacher breakroom when possible.

Scholastic Book Fair
This committee is responsible for organizing and executing our Scholastic Book Fair. The book fair runs for several days and requires many volunteers. This event provides countless free books for our school, as well as keeps our kids reading!

School Supplies Fundraiser Coordinator
This person works with a partner company, SchoolKidz, and Harman staff to curate school supply kits. The kits are curated in the spring and delivered to the school in the fall. The PTO receives a small amount of money for each kit purchased. Prior to the first day of school, this person will work with volunteers to distribute the supplies to the appropriate classrooms.

Veterans Day Breakfast Chair
This person will serve as the primary contact for the school to organize our annual Veterans Day Breakfast, a wonderful celebration for our veterans and their families. The Chair will work with the committee to coordinate food, beverages, and decor, as needed.

6th Grade Recognition Committee
The 6th Grade Committee, consisting of parents, organizes events to celebrate the graduating class as they transition to Junior High. Their responsibilities include planning the graduation ceremony and program, designing class t-shirts, and collaborating with Smith School's PTO to host a picnic/pool party at the OCC with food and drinks. They also coordinate a joint social event, such as a dance, with Smith.

This committee works with the Art teacher to organize volunteers to assist with the set-up of the Harman Arts Showcase in the weeks leading up to the event. Garden Committee
Not to be confused with the Garden Club for students, this committee gives parents the chance to show off their green thumbs. This committee is responsible for keeping the grounds of Harman School looking beautiful. If you enjoy gardening, this is the perfect committee for you.

This committee is responsible for welcoming new families into our Harman Family.
